The wait for an accessible entrance is almost over!

The wait for an accessible entrance is almost over! All we're waiting on is the City of Winnipeg to build a swale on our sidewalk and we'll be there. In the meantime on September 23rd, Martha Street Studio welcomed Ted Howarth, local printmaker and professor as the first visitor to use our new elevator!

Teens who Monoprint.

Dear Martha Street Studio,

Oh how you are all missed! Here are a few photographs depicting a Monoprint class taught by the amazing Inga (top photo), who was kind enough to let me capture the mayhem of student teens hard at work. What an amazing woman and teacher. Also included in this post are a handful of staff/volunteer portraits. Beauties, all of you.

Sincerely, Meg Kroeker

Transience and Resistance by Tracy Peters

INVITATION to OPENING

I invite you to come out and see my latest project - a temporary installation. Informal receptions will take place in situ on Tuesday, June 29th and Wednesday, June 30th, from 6:00-9:00pm. at 160 Marion Street (1 1/2 blocks past the Norwood Hotel, same side). Refreshments will be served.

Extra parking at rear of the building.
Entrance on main floor side door, west side of building (sign on door).
Inside are two separate sets of stairs with railings.

If possible, please RSVP by email or phone 803-7003.

I look forward to celebrating this work with you,
Tracy Peters

Impending plans to redevelop the building is a circumstance that parallels the concept of this work.

Transience and Resistance is an installation that investigates transitional dwellings that once housed life and now evoke futility. This is part of a long-term investigation into abandoned living structures that represent decay. In this work, I am studying how erosion wipes away the layers of utility and rational logic, and pushes a structure into the realm of uselessness, nostalgia, and melancholy. This installation attempts to engage the viewer through a heightened sense of interiority and tactile intimacy.

Free - Wooden Art Crates

I have 2 crates that were made by the AGO for a show of mine. They're wood, 22" W. x 27" H. x 32" L. They're fully sealed and the tops are secured by heavy-duty twist locks. They are also fully lined & padded. The worst thing about them is that they're heavy. The best thing is that they're virtually indestructible.

I no longer need them and am wondering if they might be useful to MPA or possibly one of the other members?

Oh - and the other good thing is, they're free. First come, first served.

Cheers,

Richard

MPA Still Under Construction

The view from within the front doors of MPA looking upward to the second level. A temporary staircase has been built for access to the offices and studio upstairs.

Here are some pics of our New Entryway which is currently under construction. Martha Street Studio's offices are currently open however, our studio spaces still need to be dusted mopped and cleaned before renters and artists can access our facilities to print. We are hoping to have the studio ready by January 11th, however, please phone ahead.

"Al" our site manager is completing the temporary staircase heading to the lower level of MPA.
